Massive Oil Price Hike Set for March 10; Kerosene Up by P35, Diesel by 23 and Gasoline by 11-13 Pesos #ArayKo

Filipino motorists and consumers are advised to brace for a "one-time, big-time" increase in fuel prices starting Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Industry estimates suggest that prices could jump by as much as P35 per liter, marking one of the steepest domestic oil price hikes in recent history.

Projected Adjustments

The Department of Energy (DOE) and industry analysts are tracking a substantial adjustment across all major fuel types. Based on the latest international trading data, the forecasted increases are as follows:

Fuel Type,Estimated Increase (per Liter)

Kerosene,P33.00 – P35.00

Diesel,P21.00 – P23.00

Gasoline,P11.00 – P13.00

Driving Factors: Middle East Conflict

The primary driver behind this surge is the escalating military conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The instability has led to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint that handles approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply.

Local factors, including the weakening of the Philippine Peso against the US Dollar and increased shipping insurance costs, have further exacerbated the domestic price impact.

Government Response and Mitigation

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin stated that the DOE is in talks with oil companies to potentially implement these hikes on a staggered basis to cushion the blow to consumers.

"We are asking oil companies to subdivide the increase across several days or weeks instead of implementing it in one blow," the DOE noted in a recent briefing.

Other measures being considered by the administration include:

Fuel Subsidies: Immediate release of funds for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

Four-Day Work Week: A proposed shift for government offices to reduce national energy consumption.

Excise Tax Suspension: Potential emergency powers for the President to suspend fuel taxes if global prices remain above $80 per barrel.

Impact on Consumers

The sharp increase is expected to trigger a domino effect on the cost of basic goods and services, particularly food and transportation. The DOE has warned retailers against hoarding and profiteering, urging the public to report any unauthorized price hikes ahead of the Tuesday schedule.
