DENR-EMB: METRO CEBU AIR QUALITY VERY UNHEALTHY DUE TO HAZE - Stay Indoor, Wear Mask

 The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau in Region 7 (DENR-EMB 7) has issued an air quality warning following visible hazy conditions blanketing parts of Metro Cebu on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Air quality monitoring data from the station in Talisay City recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 152, placing the region's air quality in the "Very Unhealthy" category. Elevated levels of fine particulate matter are driving the haze, with authorities noting that regional transboundary haze from forest fires in Indonesia may be a contributing factor to the pollution spike.

Key Health & Safety Guidelines:

Wear Protective Masks: The DENR-EMB 7 strongly advises the public to wear well-fitted face masks (such as N95 or KN95 respirators) when going outdoors to block fine particles from entering the respiratory system.

Minimize Outdoor Exposure: Limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities, such as jogging or outdoor work.

Protect Vulnerable Groups: Children, senior citizens, and individuals with existing heart or respiratory conditions (such as asthma) should remain indoors with windows closed.

Indoor Precautions: Keep indoor spaces well-ventilated or use air conditioners set to "recirculate" mode to prevent outside air from entering.

Residents are urged to monitor official DENR-EMB 7 advisories for real-time updates as environmental officers track local wind patterns and particulate levels. Seek immediate medical consultation if experiencing difficulty breathing, severe coughing, or chest discomfort.
