Authorities are investigating bullying as a potential motive behind a shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte, on Monday, June 22, 2026.
In a phone interview, Brigadier General Jason Capoy, Director of the Police Regional Office Eastern Visayas, stated that initial findings indicate the suspects—two close friends in the 9th grade, aged 14 and 15—had previously been victims of bullying themselves.
“Parang na-bully rin daw ito since Grade 7 at ongoing pa ‘yung interview natin together with (DSWD) Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at mga teachers and school officials,” he said.
The suspects managed to smuggle a Glock pistol and a caliber .38 revolver into the San Jose National High School campus in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City, Leyte. The police noted that the school has multiple entry/exit points but only employs a single security guard, who was at the main guardhouse when the 9 a.m. shooting occurred Monday, June 22, 2026.
